Setup a Stretchy
Setting up a Stretchy tent is (usually) pretty easy. Follow the guide below to learn how to set up your own Stretchy tent.
- How windy is it? Fokken windy if you live in Cape Town. You might need someone to help you hold bits of your Stretchy if it's blowing a gale.
- Unfold your Stretchy tent in the space that you want to be under shade.
- Thread your moerse-long rope through all the loops along the edge of your Stretchy.
- Depending on how much privacy you want, allow for ±1 meter of rope at each of the four corners.
- Make a simple loop knot with the rope, right on each of the corners, so all the tension in your stretchy will be spread across the edges.
- At one of the corners, moer in a bit of rebar.
- At the corner with the rebar, hook one end of your rope through.
- Now do the same rebar and rope combo at the other 3 corners, noting that your Stretchy does not need to be super-tight at this stage. A bit of flapping around is a good thing.
- It's time for a bit of hide and seek! Grab a pole and pop a tennis ball on the end of it, and climb underneath your Stretchy
- Raise the roof! Lift your pole, balls upward and then wedge in the ground when you've got enough tension.
- Repeat with as many poles and balls as you want to. A basic lekker Stretchy only needs 4 poles near each of the corners.
- Adjust as necessary. If the tent is too tight to put up your poles, release some rope, or move your rebar closer to give some slack.
- Sit under your lovely Stretchy tent, crack open a drink and put your feet up before looking for someone to help you with whatever you're going to be doing underneath it.
